Bio:
Jen–Chang Chou was born in Taixing, Jiangsu Provence, China. He left China for Taiwan at the age of 11, graduated from the Chinese Naval Academy in Kaohsiung in 1958, and received a MS in Nuclear Engineering from National Tsinghua University in Hsinchu in 1965. He then earned his PhD. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany in 1970. He is the author of 25 journal articles on nuclear science, accelerator applications, and nuclear applications, and he is a frequent contributor to Sino–Canadian American Science News Brief. From 1992–2002, Dr. Chou was the Director of the Science Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, in San Francisco (SDSF), as well as a distinguished nuclear physicist and government leader. From 1970–1992, he served as the Director in the Institute of Nuclear Research, Lungtan, Taiwan before leaving to lead SDSF. For more than nine years, Dr. Chou also volunteered as the Secretary General serving in the boards of Monte Jade Science and Technology Association in Silicon Valley.
Since his retirement in 2002, he has volunteered in various organizations, including Monte Jade, Stanford University, the Asian Liver Center, and Chinese Cancer Care Foundation. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, and visiting (and spoiling) his four grandchildren.
